Kyivan Rus

Commemorative coin of 20 Hryvnias denomination is dedicated to one of the greatest early medieval states in Europe (9th - middle of 12th centuries), which appeared through unification of eastern-slavic tribes around Kyiv and Middle Dnipro basin. It set up favourable conditions for development of social, economic, political and cultural life of our ancestors. In circulation since December 25, 2001.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse there is a depiction of the common for the whole series composition: in the centre within the internal ring and on the background of rye spikelets there is a depiction of a symbolic wheel of history and a trident and beneath - a snake is depicted and above there is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine; within the external ring, to the left there is a depiction of a Prince with a cathedral model in his hand. Near prince's feet there is a lying cheetah; to his right a princess holding a needlework is depicted, as well as the Mint logo and inscriptions: УКРАЇНА / 2001 / 20 / ГРИВЕНЬ.
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse within the internal ring, there ia an old-rus feminine decoration; within the external ring - fragments of Kyivan ritual bracelets (12th c.- 13th c.) and a conventionalised two-lined insctription: КИЇВСЬКА РУСЬ.
