Nikolay Zelinsky

Nikolay Dimitrievich Zelinsky (Зелинский, Николай Дмитриевич in Russian) (February 6 n.s., 1861, Tiraspol, the largest city of Transnistria - July 31, 1953, Moscow), Russian chemist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of USSR (1929). Zelinsky studied at the University of Odessa and at the universities of Leipzig and Göttingen in Germany. Zelinsky was one of the founders of theory on organic catalysis. He is the inventor of the first effective filtering activated charcoal gas mask in the world (1915). The crater Zelinskiy on the Moon is named in his honor.

Obverse: 
there is an image of the State Emblem Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika in the centre, circled by an inscription "ПРИДНЕСТРОВСКИЙ РЕСПУБЛИКАНСКИЙ БАНК" (Pridnestrovskiy Respublikanskiy Bank) in Cyrillic above the image along the edging and an inscription "100 РУБЛЕЙ" (100 rubles) in Cyrillic under the image. An inscription "2001" indicating the mint year is below the image of the State Emblem.
Reverse: 
In the centre there is an image of  N.D. Zelinskiy’s portrait framed with a laurel wreath to the right . To the left of the portrait there is an image of a retort on the pedestal, a burning candle and a book opened at the page with a chemical designation of gold. An inscription "Н.Д. ЗЕЛИНСКИЙ" (N.D.ZELINSKIY) in Cyrillic is above the image and written in semicircle inscription “1861 - 1953” indicating his life time is below.
