St Sergius, Hegumen of Radonezh

Next coin from the series "Life of the Saints". Sergius of Radonezh, born to a boyar family near Rostov Velikiy in 1314 (1319, 1322 date of the birth unknown) - died on 25 September 1392) was a spiritual leader and monastic reformer of medieval Russia. Canonized in 1452, his relics were found in 1422 and placed in the new Trinity Cathedral of the Lavra which he founded.

On the top of the coins, in the center the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; above it - a circumferential inscription: "THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS" (in Russian); all over the entire surface of the coin - gold-plated scenes from the Hagiography of St. Sergius of Radonezh: birth of Sergius of Radonezh, appearance of the venerable elder before the boy called Bartholomew, parents' blessing, ordaining Sergius of Radonezh as deacon and priest, providing a water source from the earth, blessing Prince Dmitry Donskoy (the border scene is pad-printed), appearance of Theotokos before Sergius of Radonezh and burial of St. Sergius of Radonezh) silhouetted against the sky and birds and accompanied by descriptive notes. Inscriptions: "500 ROUBLES" (in Russian), "Ag 925" and "2014".

In the center of the coin an image of St. Sergius, Hegumen of Radonezh (the halo is plated with gold); along the rim - the ornamental pattern which is used in iconography with Swarovski crystal insets and an inscription: ПРЕПОДОБНЫЙ СЕРГИЙ ИГУМЕН РАДОНЕЖСКИЙ (ST. SERGIUS, HEGUMEN OF RADONEZH).
