Yeletskyi Holy Dormition Cloister

The commemorative coin is dedicated to an architectural complex, the Yeletskyi Holy Dormition Cloister. Founded in the 11th century, the cloister belongs to one of the oldest buildings in Ukraine and features the stone Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral as its major structure.

Obverse: 
There are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine (above) and the semicircular legends: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and ЄЛЕЦЬКИЙ СВЯТО-УСПЕНСЬКИЙ МОНАСТИР (Yeletskyi Holy-Dormition Cloister) beneath; in the centre there is depicted the main building of the cloister, i.e. Holy Dormition Cathedral with the inscription XI-XVIII ст. (centuries) against the background thereof; to the left of the cathedral there is the coin face value - 5/ГРИВЕНЬ (5 hryvnias) on the German silver one; to the right there is 2012 (coin issue year). Thereunder, there is the National Bank of Ukraine Mint logo.
Reverse: 
There is a conventionalized image of the Mother of God icon on the spruce tree according to a legend about the cloister foundation with the semicircular inscription ОБРАЗ ПРЕСВЯТОЇ БОГОРОДИЦІ ЄЛЕЦЬКОЇ (Image of the Blessed Theotokos of Yeletskyi) above on the ribbon and a conventionalized ornamental pattern below.
