Zarvanytsia - Maria's Spiritual Centre
The commemorative coin is dedicated to one of the old pilgrimage places – Maria’s Spiritual Centre in the village of Zarvanytsia (Ternopil Oblast), whose origination is tied in with the legendary apparition of a wonderworking icon of the Mother of God. To date Zarvanytsia is one of the most respected places of penitential sojourn. Issued into circulation on May 28, 2010.
Obverse:
On the coin obverse above there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the semicircular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine); beneath there are indicated the coin face value and mintage year 10 ГРИВЕНЬ/2010 (10 hryvnias). In the center there is depicted the wonderworking icon of Our Lady of Zarvanytsia, to the right and left whereof – the angels from the iconostasis.
Reverse:
On the coin reverse there is depicted the impressive architectural ensemble of the cathedral of Our Lady of Zarvanytsia with its bell tower and inscriptions: МАРІЙСЬКИЙ ДУХОВНИЙ ЦЕНТР (Maria’s Spiritual Centre), semicircular above, and с. ЗАРВАНИЦЯ/ТЕРНОПІЛЬСЬКА ОБЛ. (village of Zarvanytsia / Ternopil oblast) below.
