Scythian Gold

The coin is dedicated to the Scythian period (7th – 3d centuries B.C.), an extremely important stage in the development of the jeweller's art in the territory of Ukraine. This distinctive jeweller's art was embodied in figures of animals which decorated military munitions, household goods, clothing; etc. In circulation since April 26, 2005.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse within the bead circle there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, above which there is 2005, the coin mintage year; between the bead circle and the coin rim there are inscriptions: УКРАЇНА (above), 2 ГРИВНІ (beneath), as well as Au 999,9, the designation of metal (left), 1,24 g, its weight and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine (right).
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse there is a golden plaque depicting a relief sideview figure of a Scythian horseman, which was found in 1830 during archeological excavations of Kul-Oba burial mound near the city of Kerch.
