The Savior Cathedral in Chernihiv

The commemorative coin of 20 hryvnia denomination is dedicated to the Holy Saviour's Cathedral, the outstanding architectural  monument of Kyiv Rus, erected in 1033-1034 during the rule of Chernihiv Prince Mstislav, a son of Great Prince Vladimir. In circulation since June 24, 1997.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse in central circle framed with a conventionalized vegetal ornamentation there is a fragment depiction of   "Holy Teklya" fresco of 11th century. Above, there is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine. Around the coin circumference there is inscription: УКРАЇНА. Underneath there is the year of issue - 1997 and in two lines - 20 ГРИВЕНЬ, the coin's face value. The word ГРИВЕНЬ is located around the coin circumference. To the left and to the right from the figure 20 there are designations of Аg 925 and 31,1, coin's pure weight. The whole composition is framed with circumference beads decoration.
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse in center there is a depiction of the Savior Cathedral's western facade. Around coin circumference there are inscriptions: ЧЕРНІГІВ - to the left, СПАСЬКИЙ СОБОР - above and ХI ст - to the right. The inscriptions are separated from one another with solar signs. Underneath, there is a ribbon with the inscription ДУХОВНІ СКАРБИ УКРАЇНИ.
