Parthian Fortresses of Nisa

Nisa (also Parthaunisa) was an ancient city, located near modern-day Bagir village, 18 km southwest of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Nisa is described by some as one of the first capitals of the Parthians. It was traditionally founded by Arsaces I (reigned c. 250 BC–211 BC), and was reputedly the royal necropolis of the Parthian kings, although it has neither been established that the fortress at Nisa was a royal residence nor a mausoleum.

The fortress of Nisa is situated in the west, at 18km of the capital of Turkmenistan - Ashgabat city/village of Bagir. It was the first capital of the ancient Parthman State. Today this fortress bears the name "Old Nisa". There was a hall there with 43 rectangulars. The first part was occupied by the palace. The treasuryand administrative premises were in the other part. Parthman kings lived in Old Nisa. "New Nisa" which is not far from the "Old Nisa", belongs to the II century B.C.
