Nizami Ganjavi

This coin was issued to celebrate Azerbaijan’s great poet and sage Nizami Ganjavi. He was born in Ganja, an ancient city of Azerbaijan. He went down in the History of the World Literature, with his book “Khamsa” (the Five), which includes five great poems. Nizami’s heritage has been translated into the most languages of the world.

Nezāmi-ye Ganjavi (Persian: نظامی گنجوی; Kurdish: Nîzamî Gencewî, نیزامی گه‌نجه‌وی; Azerbaijani: Nizami Gəncəvi, نظامی گنجوی ;‎ 1141 to 1209), or Nezāmi (Persian: نظامی), whose formal name was Niżām ad-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Ilyās ibn-Yūsuf ibn-Zakī ibn-Mu‘ayyad, is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature, who brought a colloquial and realistic style to the Persian epic. His heritage is widely appreciated and shared by Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Tajikistan.
