New Georgia coin dedicated to Ilori St. Georges church

The National Bank of Georgia issued 10 lari denomination silver coin, which is dedicated to Ilori St. Georges church

Today a silver commemorative coin with the image of Ilori St. Georges church (Ilori village, Ochamchire region, Abkhazia, Georgia), commemorating St. George day (Giorgoba) is put into circulation.

A coin with a face value of 10 lari was released in Finland on the order of the National Bank of Georgia in honor of the St. Georges church in Ilori.

Designers of the coin are Mamuka Gongadze (reverse) and Temur Aphadze (obverse). Composition of the obverse presents to the sketches of Ilori St. Georges church, village Ilori and riders, made by the Italian monk, Don Christopher Castelli in the XVII century. The background of the composition is the Caucasus Mountains. In the lower right corner is the inscription "Georgia" and the year - 2009. On the reverse, in the middle, the modern St. Georges church is depicted. In its central lower part the date of the church in Roman numerals - XI is indicated. In the left corner the face value and the inscription "Lari" is placed, and the top of the circle contains the coat of arms of Georgia and the inscription "Ilori".

At this stage 1500 silver coins are released, and can be purchased at the Money Museum of the National Bank of Georgia.

Since 1995, the National Bank of Georgia has released only 8 collectible coins, including investment coin "Golden Fleece".
