St Sergius, Hegumen of Radonezh

Next coin from the series "Life of the Saints". Sergius of Radonezh, born to a boyar family near Rostov Velikiy in 1314 (1319, 1322 date of the birth unknown) - died on 25 September 1392) was a spiritual leader and monastic reformer of medieval Russia. Canonized in 1452, his relics were found in 1422 and placed in the new Trinity Cathedral of the Lavra which he founded.

Obverse: 
At the top in the center - the relief image of the State coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus, above in a circle there is an inscription: “РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ” (The Republic of Belarus); across the coin on the background of the sky and birds there are gold-plated images (on the silver coin) accompanied by explanatory inscriptions. These images depict scenes of life of St. Sergius of Radonezh (the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the epiphany of a venerable old man to young Bartholomew, the blessing of parents, enthronement of Sergius of Radonezh as deacon and priest, creation of a source from the ground, the blessing of Prince Dmitry Donskoy (stamp performed by pad printing), the epiphany of the Virgin to Sergius of Radonezh, the burial of St. Sergius of Radonezh); at the bottom of the coin there are inscriptions along the rim: on the right - fineness and the year of issue, on the left - face value “5000 РУБЛЁЎ” (5000 rubles).

In the center - the relief image of St. Sergius of Radonezh, along the rim - ornament used in iconography, with inlays of pearls and an inscription: “ПРЕПОДОБНЫЙ СЕРГИЙ ИГУМЕН РАДОНЕЖСКИЙ” (St. Sergius Hegumen of Radonezh).
