Artashesyan Kingdom

commemorative coins of the "Armenian Statehood" series depict several parts of the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia. These parts relate to former dynasties and were used in their ancient coats of arms. This coin is based on the coat of arms of the Artashesyan dynasty (189 BC - 1 AD) which was founded by Artashes I who was of the Yervandouni royal family. During the reign of Artashes a national unified state of Armenia was established. Tigran II, "the Great" was the most outstanding king of the Artashesyan dynasty. During the Artashesyan dynasty Armenia was a powerful nation being economically and culturally developed, many new towns were established, foreign links were strengthened and trade prospered.
