Sahak A. Partev

The Central Bank of Armenia has issued a silver commemorative coin with nominal value Dram 100, dedicated to Sahak A. Partev, on the occasion of the 1600-th anniversary of invention of the Armenian letters. Sahak A. Partev was born in 348 in Caesarea. He was clergyman and political and cultural figure, and since 387 has served as Catholicos. Died in 439 and buried in Ashtishat. The Charch ranked Sahak A. Partev among the Saints.
Sahak A. Partev sponsored and helped Mesrop Mashtots in his efforts to create the Armenian letters. He carried out vast educational activities.
