Turkestan 1500

Issued in 1 September, 2000. Edge: with 10 sectors of corrugation. Commemorative coin devoted to 1500th anniversary of the city Turkestan. The city of Turkestan is one of the most ancient in Kazakhstan. The favorable geographic location of the settlement on an ancient caravan route - a branch of the Great Silk Road - as well as the pilgrimage of believers to the mausoleum of a great poet and preacher, Khodzha Ahmet Yasawin - favored its development and brisk trade . The city Turkestan is given an important role in the historical, cultural and spiritual life of the Central Asian region.

Obverse: 
On the face of the coin (averse), on its upper side the state emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan is located and under it there is a two-line inscription "50 ТЕҢГЕ". From the right and left side of the denomination there is the element of national ornament. On the circumference there is the legend "ҚАЗАҚСТАН YЛТТЫҚ БАНКI" (National Bank of Kazakhstan).
Reverse: 
The central part of the back side of the coin shows a representation of Khodzha Ahmet Yasawi's mausoleum. On the right, a date "2000" indicates the year of coinage. In the bottom part, the legend "1500 жыл" is located in two lines. To the left and to the right of it, an element of national ornamental pattern is depicted. At the top, on the circumference legends "ТҮРКІСТАН" and "АХМЕТ ЯСАУИ КЕСЕНЕСІ" are located in two lines.
