Turkestan 1500

Date of issue: 1 September, 2000. Commemorative coins devoted to 1500th anniversary of the city Turkestan. The city of Turkestan is one of the most ancient in Kazakhstan. The favorable geographic location of the settlement on an ancient caravan route - a branch of the Great Silk Road - as well as the pilgrimage of believers to the mausoleum of a great poet and preacher, Khodzha Ahmet Yasawin - favored its development and brisk trade . The city Turkestan is given an important role in the historical, cultural and spiritual life of the Central Asian region.

Obverse: 
On the observe side of the coin in the center, the legend "100 Тенге" is located in two rows, indicating the face value of the coin. At the bottom of the coin, limited on top by a border of national ornamental pattern and the emblem of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, is a date "2000", indicating the year of coinage. To the left, there is a legend "Ag 925" indicating the standard of metal. On the right is a trademark of the Kazakhstan Mint. The circumference of the coin contains the legend "КАЗАКСТАН YЛТТЫК БАНКІ" ("National Bank of Kazakhstan").
Reverse: 
The central part of the reserve side of the coin shows a representation of a southern portal of Khodzha Ahmet Yasawi's mausoleum. Under it is a bead border and a legend, in three lines, "1500 ЖЫЛ ТYРКІСТАН", going in prospect and symbolizing a road to the temple. On the circumference is the legend "ҚОЖА АХМЕТ ЯСАУИ КЕСЕНЕСІ".
