New Ukrainian coin Dniprova Chaika

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation "Dniprova Chaika" coin on October 25th, 2011 from  coin series.

Face value of new "Dniprova Chaika" coin is 5 hryven, metal - silver, purity 0.925, weight 15.55 g, diameter 33 mm, proof quality. Mintagage 5 000 pcs. Coin is minted at the .

Dniprova Chaika, the daughter of a clergyman, was a teacher closely involved with the revolutionary underground. Her works were first published in 1885; she wrote prose poems, miniatures, novellas, and short stories (“The Free Wave That Played in the Sea,” “The Floodlands Are Burning,” and “The Revolutionary”). The basic themes of her works are the hard life of the peasantry, the everyday life of the intelligentsia, and the events of the Revolution of 1905. Dniprova Chaika was the author of the librettos of the children’s operas Pan Kots’kii, Naughty Little Goat, and Winter and Spring, or the Snow Queen (music by N. V. Lysenko).
