New Lithuanian coins dedicated to basketball

The Bank of Lithuania has issued 50 Litas gold collector (commemorative) coin and 1 Litas copper-nickel alloy circulation collector coin of the Republic of Lithuania – both dedicated to basketball.

The 50 Litas coin is made of 999 assay gold, it is of proof quality (mirror surface frosted relief), diameter – 16.25 mm, weight – 3.10 g, mintage – 5.000 coins.

The 1 Litas coin is made of copper-nickel alloy, its diameter is 22.3 mm, weight – 6.25 g, mintage – 1.000.000 coins.

The obverse and the reverse of the gold and copper-nickel alloy coins have a background of a stylized basket ball. The reverse bears a writing THE EUROPEAN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 (EUROPOS KREPŠINIO ČEMPIONATAS 2011). The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania called VYTIS, the writing LITHUANIA (LIETUVA), denomination (50 LITAS and 1 LITAS accordingly) with a mark of Lithuanian Mint imprinted next to it, and the year 2011.

The edge of the gold coin is plain, the edge of a copper-nickel alloy coin – rimmed with gaps.

The graphic project of the coins is created by Liudas Parulskis, the author of a plaster model is Giedrius Paulauskis.

The coins are minted by Lithuanian Mint.
