Sholem Aleichem

The Jubilee coin is dedicated to 150th anniversary of Sholem Aleichem, the world known author, playwright and educator, whose works combine humor and lyricism. Issued into circulation on February 27, 2009.

Obverse:

On the coin obverse: above there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine with the semicircular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine), in the centre – the conventionalized composition: against the background of book sheets - Sholem Aleichem`s personal signet with a fragmentary cartoon regarding his creative work (on the right), below there are the coin face value and issue year - 5 ГРИВЕНЬ/2009 (5 hryvnias/2009).

Reverse:

On the coin reverse: there are Sholem Aleichem`s portrait and inscriptions in circumference: above - МИР ВАМ (peace be with you), below – 1859-1916, on the right – ШОЛОМ-АЛЕЙХЕМ (Sholem Aleichem), on the left – РАБИНОВИЧ ШОЛОМ (Rabinovich Sholem), being the latter two stylized and in Ukrainian.
