The commemorative coin “Christianization of Kievan Rus” is dedicated to the 1020th anniversary of the Christianization of Kievan Rus, which gained a footing for Christianity to become the state religion. The 5 hryvnia coin is issued into circulation on September 9, 2008.

Obverse: 
On the obverse  of the 5 hryvnia coin there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and the circular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above) and П ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five  hryvnias) (below), between them there is the year of coin issue 2008 (on the right), as well as the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (on the left). In the coin center in the circle of conventionalized rays there is a cross and the semi-circular inscriptions ПРАВОСЛАВ’Я (Orthodoxy) (above) and ІЗ КИЄВА ПО ВСІЙ РУСІ (From Kyiv all over Rus) (below).
Reverse: 
On the reverse of the coin there is a multi-figure composition of baptism with the inscription 988/РІК (988/YEAR) below and the semi-circular inscription – ХРЕЩЕННЯ КИЇВСЬКОЇ РУСІ (Christianization of Kievan Rus) above.
