Nestor the Chronicler

The coin is dedicated to the Nestor the Chronicler, a thinker and annalist, author of the first hagiographic works of the Ancient Rus, whose Primary Chronicle or "Tale of Bygone Years" (1113) became the acme of his creative work. Issued into circulation on December 27, 2006.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse there is depicted a conventionalized fragment of the Tale of Bygone Years page with its opening lines; the Small National Emblem of Ukraine is placed above in the centre of the coin, thereunder the inscription: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine), below there is the coin face value - 50 ГРИВЕНЬ (50 Hryvnias), the coin issue year - 2006, the metal and its fineness - Au 900,    , its weight in fineness - 15,55 g and the logotype of  the National Emblem of Ukraine Mint.
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse  there is depicted a conventionalized iconographic portrait of Nestor writing his chronicle, the vertical legend  НЕСТОР-ЛІТОПИСЕЦЬ (Nestor - / the chronicler if placed to the right and the  inscription:  XI - XII ст. (centuries) is placed below.
