The commemorative coins are dedicated to the 15th anniversary of adoption of the Act of Independence of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on August 24, 1991. Issued into circulation - August 18, 2006.

Obverse: 
On the obverse of the coin there is a composition within the necklace circlet, which embodies the idea of Ukraine's integrity: the Small National Emblem of Ukraine is enframed in a vegetative ornament and held up by a lion and a Cossack with a musket;  there is a circumscription: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ/ БАНК/ УКРАЇНИ/ 5/ ГРИВЕНЬ/ 2006 (The National Bank of Ukraine /5 Hrivnias /2006) and the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
Reverse: 
On the reverse of both coins in the nacklace circlet against the background of the map of Ukraine there is the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the circumferential legend:  УКРАЇНА/ 15 РОКІВ НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ (Ukraine / 15 Years  of independence).
