Family of Ostrozhsky

The coin is dedicated to the family of Ostrozhsky, a mighty princely family, which originates from the Volyn offshoot of Monomakhs and Ruericks. For centuries this family has been a symbol of patriotism and devotion to Ukraine and it has still continued to be so. Representatives of this family were great admirers and patrons of education, science and art in Ukraine, founders of the Ostrikh (1578) academy, the first institution of higher learning in the Eastern Europe by which a printing house was built.
