Oleksander Dovzhenko

The coin is dedicated to 110th anniversary of Oleksander P.Dovzhenko (1894 – 1956), the founder of the Ukrainian national school of cinematography, a writer and an artist who was born in a town of Sosnytsa  of Chernihiv region. Dovzhenko was a screen  poet and philosopher, a brilliant film-director, whose feature film "Earth" is included to the 12 best feature films of the world. He was a distinctive romanticist  writer, who was called as the Homer of 20th century. In circulation since July 5, 2004.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse a boy is depicted standing in a boat with a candle in his hand and floating along the river of time to meet his destiny; to the left of the composition there is 2004, the coin mintage year is depicted, under which there is small State Emblem of Ukraine and the coin face value– 2 ГРИВНІ, to the right there is a semicircular inscription: УКРАЇНА and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse there is a portrait of Oleksander Dovzhenko , as well as inscriptions: to the right and in two lines: 1894-1956, his years of life; to the left in a semi-circle:  ОЛЕКСАНДР ДОВЖЕНКО.
