Volodymyr Vernadskyi

The coin is dedicated to Volodymyr Vernadskyi (12.03.1863–06.01.1945), an outstanding natural scientist and thinker; the founder of such modern sciences about the Earth, as  geochemistry and biochemistry, an academician and the first president of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1919). His ideas played an important role in formation of the present-day scientific picture of the world and his doctrine on   interrelation of the nature and the society influenced  the formation of contemporary ecological perception.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse there is a depiction of the Earth, the cradle of mankind, above it there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: УКРАЇНА, 2003 (above, in semicircle) 2 ГРИВНІ (beneath), and the Mint logo of the National bank of Ukraine.
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse there is a portrait of Volodymyr I.Vernadskyi (right); around the coin circumference there are inscription: В.І. ВЕРНАДСЬКИЙ (left) and 1863-1945, his years of life made in two lines.
